About Us
Founded in 1961 by Peter Briggs, Peter Briggs Insurance Agency (Briggs) has been an important member of the Southeastern Massachusetts business community for many years. Initially working out of his house, Peter Briggs then moved his business to its current location at 19 County Rd. Mattapoisett in 1968. Slowly growing his business, one customer at a time, in 1984, his nephew David Perkins was brought into the business after graduating from Northeastern University. In 1987, the agency was further expanded with the hiring of Andrew Wingate, previously a manager with the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company. In 1989, with the retirement of Peter Briggs, David and Andrew assumed ownership of the agency.
David and Andrew’s now have two sons working at the agency, Peter Perkins and Chase Wingate. The younger generation is helping keep the agency up to date with new technologies and ways of running business. The Briggs agency is ready to help and connect you with competitive insurance that fits your needs.
Our Team
Since its inception, the Briggs team has grown and shrunk. Starting before the days of personal computers, many more staff members were needed in the past. Now, one agent can do the job that multiple would have.
With the aid of computers and modern technologies and practices our agents are able to be more efficient in getting work done for you. Our team looks forward to working with you.
In 2002, the agency was admitted to Insurance Services of New England, (ISNE). ISNE, is a very select group of insurance agencies committed to providing a high standard of professionalism and independent service to the insurance buying public. Through our membership with ISNE, we are able to access most of the top insurance companies offering coverage in Massachusetts. This enables us to do the shopping for our customers to obtain the best coverage and pricing. Today, the average experience of the Peter Briggs Insurance Agency’s employees averages more than 16 years. Actively involved in the local community we are committed to providing professional services with local, personal attention.
